Last Sunday we celebrated Confirmation with eight adults at the various Liturgies. In the middle of the week I went to the Corralon Detention Center to Confirm one of the candidates who had been apprehended by the Border Patrol. This weekend our 45 teen Confirmation Candidates are on retreat at Holy Cross Retreat House as they prepare for receiving the sacrament from Bishop Ochoa on May 1st. What a great way to celebrate the Easter season!!! Week after week having the Christian commitment to the Gospel paraded before us by individuals and groups saying who we are is important and calling us to renew our own commitment.

Confirmation is the anointing which makes each of us “christs” – anointed for service to fulfill Baptism’s three mandates: to be 1) priests (serving as Christ served), 2) prophets (ministers of the Word) and 3) kings/queens (guiding the way through the Community to Evangelical Peace).

Since last October, when Fr. Giles moved up to the retreat house, I’ve been asked countless times, “How are you going to do this by yourself?” What a futile question. The questions that should be posed by everyone in the parish are the following:
□ What am I able to do for the life of the community?
□ How can I make a response to the ministerial, liturgical, administrative, catechetical, outreach as well as physical care of the facilities?
□ Am I collaborating in ministry, or waiting for needs to be met?

Now is the time for each of us to renew our commitments and lay claim to the anointing which draws us to life and gives life to the community.

¡¡Confirmen Su Compromiso!!

La Confirmación es la unción que nos hace como “cristos” – ungidos para el servicio para cumplir los tres mandatos del Bautismo: ser 1) sacerdotes (sirviendo como Cristo sirvió), 2) profetas (ministros de la Palabra), y 3) reyes/reinas (guiándonos por la comunidad hacia la Paz Evangelical).

Desde el octubre pasado, cuando el Padre Giles su mudó a la casa de retiros, me han preguntado un sinnúmero de veces, “¿Cómo hará esto usted solo?” Qué pregunta tan vana. Las preguntas que todos en la parroquia se deberán hacer son las siguientes:
□ ¿Qué puedo hacer yo por la vida de la comunidad?
□ ¿Cómo puedo responder yo al cuidado ministerial, litúrgico, administrativo, catequético, para extendernos y atraer a otros a la parroquia, así como para el cuidado físico de las instalaciones?
□ ¿Estoy colaborando en algún ministerio, o esperando que se hagan las cosas?

Ahora es el tiempo para cada uno de nosotros de renovar nuestros compromisos y reclamar la unción que nos trae hacia la vida y da vida a la comunidad.
