It seems every time we turn around its election time. So the perennial question of how do we vote and what are the values we stand for are in front of us time and time again.

“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God’s what is God’s” That’s a place to begin. Jesus, was talking about taxes, and asked to see the image on the coin. But we can also apply this voting. Paul also calls us to recognize that we “are in the world, but not of the world.” The values we share as Catholic Christians are to impact our daily life. Does anyone not have commerce with the day to day living of the world around us. What impacts society, impacts us as well because we are society. What we learn in catechism and our daily prayer and meditation on the scripture needs to impact us as well. In turn our values, formed in the teaching of the Church and the Gospel, should influence how we impact the society.

Is there any ONE issue that is greater than another? Not on the face of it. Are their ANY candidates that stand up to a perfect litmus test to our Catholic Christian teachings and values? Not one. So do we just not vote? Far from it! We need to take the election, every election, to prayer. Put the candidates’ names and issues on your altarcito en casa, do what you do with your family and friends when you pray for them. Ask for discernment and understanding. In that: remember to read the papers and listen to the news, ask the questions of our values and their positions. Then go vote! ¡Es Tiempo de Votar Otra Vez!

Parece que cada vez que damos la vuelta es tiempo de elecciones. De modo que la pregunta eterna de cómo votar y de cuáles son los valores que representamos están frente a nosotros una y otra vez.

“Dar al Cesar lo que es del Cesar y a Dios lo que es de Dios.” Ese es un buen lugar para empezar. Jesús hablaba sobre los impuestos, y pidió ver la imagen en la moneda. Pero también podemos aplicar esto a la votación.
Pablo también nos llama a reconocer que “estamos en el mundo, pero no somos del mundo.” Los valores que compartimos como Católicos Cristianos deben impactar nuestra vida diaria. ¿No hay alguien que no tenga comercio con el vivir día a día en el mundo alrededor de nosotros? Lo que impacta a la sociedad, nos impacta a nosotros también porque nosotros somos la sociedad. Lo que aprendemos en el catecismo y nuestras oraciones diarias y nuestro meditar sobre las escrituras también nos debe impactar. En cambio nuestros valores, formados en las enseñanzas de la Iglesia y el Evangelio, deben influir en la manera en que impactamos la sociedad.

¿Hay algún SINGULAR asunto que es más grande que el otro? A primera vista, no. Hay ALGUNOS candidatos que puedan resistir un examen minuciosa a prueba de fuego de nuestras enseñanzas y valores Católicos Cristianos? Ninguno solo. ¿De modo que nomás no votamos? ¡Lejos de eso! Necesitamos rezar sobre la elección, todas las elecciones. Pongan los nombres de los candidatos y los asuntos sobre sus altarcitos en casa y hagan lo que hacen con sus familiares y amigos cuando rezan por ellos. Pidan discernimiento y entendimiento. En eso: acuérdense de leer los periódicos y escuchen las noticias y hagan preguntas de los valores y posiciones de los candidatos. ¡Y luego, vayan a votar! Pero ¡VOTEN! ¡VOTEN! ¡VOTEN! ¡VOTEN! ¡VOTEN!
